Until a dozen years ago, Bałtów was one of the hundreds of towns that did not catch one's eye. Today, it is famous both at home and abroad for its Bałtów Tourist Complex, which is constantly developing and changing.
The park falls under the care of palaeontological scientists and any new discoveries in this field result in changes to the dinosaur figures or the places where they are displayed. This therefore not only a ‘Disneyland’, but also a place of representation of reliable, scientific knowledge of the giant reptiles that dominated the Earth during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
Although today the town is experiencing moments of its tourist glory, it also bears the traces of a ‘magnate's fortune’. It was the property of Stanisław Chomentowski, Voivode of Mazovian Voivodship and Hetman of the Crown, then of the family of Odrowąż, Pieniążek, Małachowski and finally the Drucki-Lubecki family. Aleksander Count Drucki-Lubecki, grandson of Minister Franciszek Ksawery, built a beautiful palace on the hill, today unfortunately in a state of deepening ruin. Above the entrance to the palace was the inscription: ‘God! Let all those who visit here have what they wish for us’. First, wooden church in Bałtów was built in 1326 on a hill next to the later built palace. The next one was built in 1697 at the foot of the hill in the place where it still stands today after expansion.
Another monument in the Bałtów municipality area is the Church of Our Lady of 1697. It was enlarged at the beginning of the 20th century according to the plans of Konstanty Wojciechowski, an architect from Warsaw. Today the church has the form of a Latin cross. At the end of the renovation, two towers were added, to which the bells were transferred. Inside there are paintings by Franciszek Woron, a pupil of Matejko.
Bałtów provides many opportunities to spend time in an interesting way. You can take part in rafting on the Kamienna River, visiting the Bałtów Jurassic Park, Zwierzyniec Bałtów (a bus trip), a working 100-year-old mill, enjoy the beauty of the Land of the Horses, or take a tour of the surrounding hills. The Bałtów Tourist Complex is located on the Świętokrzyskie Archeo-Geological Trail.
