  • Description

    Jewish cementary in Kielce was estabilished in 19. century by well-known architect Franciszek Ksawery Kowalski. Supervision of the cemetery was held by one of the most important Jewish charitable organizations  - the Society for the Poor"s Relief  of the Jewish Faith - Chwera Kadisha.

    Tombstones were made of marble, sandstone or granite. The oldest one was built in 1873. Many are decorated by artistic qualities. During the Second World War, the cemetery was vandalized. Currently, the cemetery has 3.12 hectares. In 1981, about 150 tombstones was set in a lapidary . In the years 1986 - 1987 the cemetery was restored and fenced thanks to the Nissenbaum Foundation.
