Description
It has also been called Great. It survived as one of four old gates to the city. Built in the second half of the 14th century, topped with an attic in the 16th century. It is a quiet witness of centuries of Sandomierz history. These days it is the highest viewpoint in the city.
It was built during the kingship of Kazimierz the Great. Centuries ago, the Opatów Gate was a part of Sandomierz defensive system. The stairs leading up the Gate were constructed in 1958. On both of its sides remain the remnants of the old defensive walls. Currently the tower is used as an amazing viewpoint that allows the visitors to look at the Sandomierz landscape, which, with good visibility, can be even up to 80-90km.
A hint! There is a possibility of organizing a dinner under the stars on the observation deck on the Gate. It’s perfect for weddings and other events.
