In the 80s, Polish people that could not contact their beloved Wilno for various historical reasons, asked bishop Edward Materski to allow them to pray under the image of Our Lady of Ostra Brama, because it was an important memory from childhood for them.
Since there had already been a plan to build a new church in Skarżysko-Kamienna, Ordinary of the Diocese of Radom decided to fulfill the request of those who were missing the Merciful Mother of Poles by deciding that the Shrine of Our Lady of Ostra Brama will be built. The shrine is a faithful copy of its Wilno predecessor. The painting of the Mother of God was created by Izabela Borowska - a woman who came from Wilno. It was funded by bishop Materski, who was very involved in the creation and development of this shrine.
