The tranquillity of Ponidzie, vast fields and the hum of tractors conceal an extraordinary history. The stronghold in Stradów is the largest facility of its kind in Poland, constituting a testimony to the valiant Vistulans and their ancient times. Today, it is not only a valuable archaeological find, but also a picturesque place to discover the past and take photographs.

The remains of a huge Slavic stronghold, dating from between the 8th and 12th centuries AD, which, together with its outer bailey, covered an area of about 25 hectares. The main stronghold, called Zamczysko by researchers, covered an area of about 1.5 hectares and was surrounded by massive ramparts with a circumference of about 500 metres and moats, the remains of which reach up to 12 metres in height. According to archaeologists' estimates, the entire complex was inhabited by 2,000 to 4,000 people.

Today, the settlement offers a beautiful viewpoint from which you can admire the surrounding forests and fields, as well as feel the old atmosphere of this historic place. It is an ideal place for a walk and to learn about the secrets of the Slavic past of Ponidzie.
