Nature lesson in practice

The most valuable natural area in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship is the Świętokrzyski National Park. The endemic forest communities, i.e. the ancient fir forest, the famous stone run and the centuries-old history attract thousands of tourists every year.

A must-see is a guided hike through the forests of the Świętokrzyski National Park to one of the two peaks: Łysica (614 m) – the highest peak in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, or Łysa Góra (595 m), also known as the Holy Cross. On both hills you will see rocky debris, called gołoborza, but it is on the Holy Cross that you will find the viewing platform from where you will enjoy the magnificent panorama. You can consolidate the knowledge you have gained during the trip at the Natural History Museum of the Świętokrzyski National Park at Święty Krzyż.

An excellent complement to the trip is a visit to the Museum of Minerals and Fossils in Święta Katarzyna. Here, kids will not only learn a lot of interesting facts about rocks and minerals from all over the world, but will also have a look at the process of processing striped flint.

Legendary Świętokrzyskie Mountains

Legends are one of the most important components of the intangible cultural heritage of the Świętokrzyskie region and our distinguishing feature. After all, who among you hasn’t heard about the Witches’ Sabbaths on Łysa Góra, the Madejowa bed or Queen Bona’s treasures? This is a good topic for a school trip in any class!

A visit to the Medieval Settlement in Huta Szkła (Glassworks) will introduce you to a fairytale, ancient dimension. In a replica of a medieval settlement, get to know its residents and their crafts. A blacksmith, woodcarver, weaver, potter or herbalist await you here.

The highpoint of the trip will be a visit to the Park of Legends in Nowa Słupia. This modern facility has become home to 14 of the most beautiful legends from the Świętokrzyskie region. It will be mysterious, sometimes scary, and certainly interesting and exciting. In the end, you will be treated to a visit to the 3D cinema, fun in the educational room and a real departure in VR technology – a broomstick flight simulator!

An additional option for the Park of Legends is to take part in workshops: cut-outs, mothballs, sculpture, herbalism or soap-making.

The cherry on top is the Slavic Fairy Tales, an open-air performance with torches. In the area around the Park of Legends, at the foot of the legendary Łysa Góra, you will be transported back in time! You will come face to face with living legends: Południca, Rusałka, the Goddess Mokosh and the real Baba Yaga. You will not forget this meeting for a long time. Good humour and excitement guaranteed!

The Świętokrzyski Literary Trail

The Świętokrzyski Literary Trail is a proposal for a school trip following in the footsteps of favourite writers and book characters. The area around Kielce is indivisibly dominated by Stefan Żeromski and Henryk Sienkiewicz – authors of obligatory school readings.

The Sejm has declared 2025 the Year of Stefan Żeromski. So there is no need to wait! Plan a school trip to the Świętokrzyskie region now.

You can start the trip with a visit to Oblęgorek. In the Palace which Henryk Sienkiewicz received as a gift from the Polish nation on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his literary work, you will see not only the historical interiors, but also a multimedia biographical and literary exhibition. You will also benefit from the offer of educational activities and museum lessons.

You will meet Stefan Żeromski for the first time in Kielce. It is here that the teenage writer attended the Male Government Gymnasium. Today, its old walls house the Stefan Żeromski Museum. The second place connected with the writer’s biography is Ciekoty. In this small village with a view of Łysica Żeromski spent his childhood and youth. A modern multimedia exhibition and the reconstructed manor house of the Żeromski family await you at the „Szklany Dom” Centre for Education and Culture.

Action-Education

When the school walls start to feel uncomfortable, it’s time for a trip! One where you can move around, have adventures, explore, experiment and relax at the same time. What to choose? The Świętokrzyskie of course!

A great activity during a school trip that integrates pupils is to take part in an urban or outdoor game. This is not only fun, but also a way to learn about the city, its history and monuments in an unconventional way. You can order such games in Kielce, Sandomierz, Chęciny or Kurozwęki in Świętokrzyskie tourist offices.

Places where you will gain knowledge through experiments and fun are the Energy Science Centre in Kielce and the da Vinci Science Centre in Podzamcze. One is dedicated to the topic of renewable energy sources, and the other to the proper functioning of the human body. A range of scientific workshops awaits you in both places.

Getting to know history

The Świętokrzyskie region is a real gem. You can take children and young people at any level of education here to learn about Poland’s history. Visiting Świętokrzyskie will take you through centuries. From the Neolithic striped flint mines in Krzemionki Opatowskie and ancient metallurgy in Nowa Słupia, through the medieval urban centres of Sandomierz and Wiślica, the mighty castles in Chęciny and Ujazd, the 19th century industrial monuments, to modern history in the Centre of Patriotic and Civic Reflection in Kielce or the Museum of Martyrdom of Polish Villages in Michniów.

Often these will be extremely interesting adventures, full of modern and interactive tools that will make history a much more enjoyable subject for many.

UNESCO Świętokrzyski Geopark

The area around Kielce is famous for its geological wealth. In 2020, a UNESCO Świętokrzyski Geopark of international significance was created in 5 communes. The variety of sedimentary rocks and associated mineral deposits, soils and vegetation used by man for almost 60,000 years are its natural resources.

Start your school trip with a visit to the Geo-Education Centre. In a modern facility that combines learning with fun, you will learn about the geological heritage of the region. Later, you can explore Kielce’s geological reserves: Wietrznia, Kadzielnia with the underground tourist route The Caves on Kadzielnia or Ślichowice. You should also not miss the Kielce Botanical Garden, which will delight you not only with its wealth of plants, but also with its wonderful views and geological curiosities.

When visiting the Kielce area you cannot miss the Paradise Cave (Jaskinia Raj) – one of the most beautiful karst caves in Poland. Also noteworthy is Miedzianka Mountain (354 m a.s.l.), which offers some of the most beautiful views in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. In Miedzianka itself, you can visit the Museum Chamber of Ore Mining, dedicated to the topic of ore and rock mining.

For the youngest

Organising a school trip for the youngest is always a big challenge. What place should we choose so that the children have fun, are not bored during the first 15 minutes of the trip and, at the same time, take away positive and valuable content?

The European Tale Centre in Pacanów should satisfy the tastes of most little ones. Take a trip where you will see a pea from under 20 Princesses’ mattresses, listen to fairy tales told by lily of the valley flowers in the garden and even feel the breath of the dragon on your own skin! The wide range of services on offer at the Tale Centre will allow you to spend a whole day here happily!

Close encounters with nature, exotic animals or quite domestic ones will be guaranteed by visits to zoological gardens, animal enclosures, parrot galleries or facilities with large aquariums. Children will not only have the opportunity to learn about new animal species, but in many cases also to feed or pet them.

You will be transported into the world of children’s dreams at the Museum of Toys and Play in Kielce. On 631 m2 of exhibition space you will see several thousand exhibits. While visiting the museum, you will see over a dozen exhibitions, including dolls from all over the world, historical and folk toys, model cars, planes, ships, an electric train and theatrical marionettes. Next door, a sweet adventure awaits you! In the sweets manufactory you can make your own chocolate cube or caramel lollipop.

Folklove Świętokrzyskie

Would you like to show your children the world of many years ago? The one you remember from your grandmother’s holidays? Take them on a school trip to the Museum of the Kielecka Village in Tokarnia. Here, time stopped at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Similar content, but in a modern, multimedia form, can be found at the Świętokrzyska Zagroda Kultury HARMONIA in Huta Szklana.

You can also go on a class trip to the The Museum for Intercultural Dialogue in Kielce. Specifically to the exhibition „From Sacrum to Profanum. Painting and Sculpture in Folk Art”. There you will discover the Świętokrzyskie soul. On the one hand, there will be themes related to Catholic rituals, and on the other, to Świętokrzyskie legends and dark tales.

Ostoja Dworska invites you to lively encounters with Świętokrzyskie folklore. The host, Pietrek, will draw you into a rubbishy game, full of bursts of laughter, and in a pleasant manner will smuggle topics related to ancient village life, economy and the cycle of nature. At the end you will taste homemade bread and butter.
